NFPTweetup – In person, online and on-air

Not so much breaking news, but spraining it – here is my blurb on last week’s excellent NFPtwteetup.
Organiser Rachel Beer, and Justgiving’s (lovely sponsors of the evening) Jonathan Waddingham, brought together about 60 non-profit types to Christian Aid’s HQ in London for a couple of hours of chat about Twitter and all manner of social media tools. We were also lucky enough to be able to boadcast live on Christian Aid’s internet radio station which I found myself presenting for a couple of hours(!). And very enjoyable it was too, once the inital shock had worn off. The collaborative slideshow that was created for the day is below.
Then followed plenty of chat focusing on the the following areas
- Tools
- Usage
- Fundraising
- Integration
- Reputation & Policy
I say plenty of chat because together with the great venue, we were allowed to hijack Christain Aid’s internet radio stream and broadcast (as much as the technology let us) live for most of the evening bringing a whole new element to the event, especially those who couldn’t phyiscally be there. I was trusted with the microphone for the duration and I’m grateful that lots of twitterers also are great witterers in real life. So without exception, thanks to everyone who gamely chatted away when I stuck a mic in their face, I hope we managed to get across a flavour of what was going on (there were a couple of very nice tweets about our efforts!).
Perfect match
Hopefully next time we can do the same and with a little bit more preparation we can integrate more of the online twittering (ably monitored by Amy Sample Ward) and the radio side because I really think radio and twitter are a perfect match for each other. (A podcast of the evening should be available soon)
So your task if you have any interest in charities and social media is to catch up on the learnings from the evening and sign up to the wiki or mailing list for details of the next NFPtweetup (probably taking place in May).
